Statement in response to the federal government’s announcement regarding military fighter jet procurement
Ottawa (Ontario), November 22, 2016 – Today the federal government announced their plan for replacing the military’s aging fleet of fighter jets. Jim Quick, President and CEO of the Aerospace Industries Association of Canada (AIAC), issued the following statement in response to the government’s announcement:
The replacement of Canada’s fighter jet fleet represents a significant opportunity for the government to foster strong Canadian innovation, talent, and economic growth. AIAC is committed to working with the government to ensure that whichever platform is selected will result in the creation of stronger companies, jobs and workers right here in Canada.
Over the past year, we have seen a strong increase in the quality of the government’s industry engagement. This has resulted in the creation of better procurement guidelines, increased communication, and greater clarity for industry on how they can best meet the government’s needs within the context of each procurement. We look forward to continuing to work with the government to enhance the quality of industrial engagement as the procurement process unfolds.
