Ottawa (Ontario), April 6, 2016 – Today the Hon. Harjit S. Sajjan, Minister of National Defence, announced that the federal government will be conducting public consultations in support of a Canadian defence policy review. The consultations will include six roundtables held at different locations across Canada; an online portal to collect feedback and submissions; discussions with Canada’s allies; and parliamentary consultations.
Minister Sajjan also announced the appointment of an advisory panel of four eminent Canadians who will provide additional support and advice to the Minister throughout the review process. The four panellists are:
The Honourable Louise Arbour, former Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada and a member of the Advisory Board of The Coalition for the International Criminal Court
The Honourable Bill Graham, former Minister of Foreign Affairs, and former Minister of National Defence
General (Ret’d) Raymond R. Henault, former Chief of the Defence Staff, and past Chairman of the NATO Military Committee (CMC)
Margaret Purdy, former Deputy Secretary to the Cabinet (Security and Intelligence) in the Privy Council Office, and former Associate Deputy Minister of National Defence.

AIAC welcomes Minister Sajjan’s announcement today that he will be conducting a Canadian defence policy review.
