NBAA Addresses Business Aviation Workforce Challenges at Congressional Hearing
A congressional hearing last week addressed the critical need to hire skilled workers across the aviation industry, with NBAA highlighting efforts to address workforce concerns throughout the business aviation community. In written testimony, the association cited its efforts to address workforce shortages, including development of the NBAA Mentoring Network; NBAA’s annual Careers in Business Aviation Day, which draws more than 1,000 high school and college students; and the nearly $100,000 in scholarships provided annually to assist students with the financial burden of attending an aviation program. Podcast: With 15 Months to ADS-B Compliance Deadline, It’s Time to Take Action
With the FAA’s Equip 2020 deadline only 15 months away, maintenance shops are finding their schedules filling up as owners/operators make arrangements for ADS-B installations. DOT Publishes Long-Awaited Air Charter Broker Final Rule
The Department of Transportation recently published new regulations related to air charter brokers, offering more opportunities for them to market and offer their services, while ensuring necessary consumer protections, said Brian Koester, NBAA’s senior manager of flight operations and regulation. “This rule should benefit the air transportation industry and consumers.” Read more about the final rule. |

General Aviation Provides Critical Lifeline in Aftermath of Hurricane Florence
Flooding from Hurricane Florence led to approximately 1,600 road closures across North Carolina, according to the state’s Department of Transportation. However nearly all of the state’s 62 airports were back up and running shortly after the worst of Florence passed, and “general aviation was it for many areas for several days,” said NCDOT Director of Aviation Bobby Walston. |

FAA’s Elwell, U.S. Rep. Abraham Are NBAA 2018 Convention Keynoters
FAA Acting Administrator Dan Elwell and U.S. Rep. Ralph Abraham (R-5-LA) will be Day 1 Keynote speakers at NBAA’s Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (NBAA-BACE). “We are honored to have these highly respected government leaders with us at this year’s NBAA-BACE,” said NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen. “We know attendees will appreciate hearing their perspectives and insights as we kick-off the show’s opening day.” |

Aviation Legend Sean Tucker Honored With NBAA’s Humanitarian Award
Aviation legend and air show performer Sean D. Tucker has been named the 2018 recipient of the Al Ueltschi Award for Humanitarian Leadership. The award will be presented during the Oct. 16 Day 1 Keynote at NBAA-BACE. The award recognizes Tucker and the Bob Hoover Academy, which he co-founded to inspire underprivileged youth through exposure to aviation. |

Record-Setting Pilots Inspire Next Generation of Aviation Professionals
Shaesta Waiz thought she’d grow up to be a housewife. Barrington Irving was focused on football. Both went on to set aviation records and become two of the most recognizable pilots in the world. At a Sept. 25 event at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, Irving and Waiz shared their inspirational stories with students from several local high schools – encouraging them to pursue their dreams. |
