Ottawa (Ontario), June 17, 2016 – Today the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development (ISED) launched Canada’s fourth astronaut recruitment campaign. The Canadian Space Agency will be accepting applications from June 17 to August 15 and expects to announce selected candidates in Summer 2017.
Jim Quick, President and CEO of the Aerospace Industries Association of Canada (AIAC), issued the following statement in response to today’s announcement:
AIAC and the Canadian space industry are delighted that Canada is once again recruiting astronauts to carry our nation’s flag in space in the years ahead. We are enormously proud of the legacy that Canadian astronauts, government and industry have built together over the previous decades, and we applaud the Minister and his colleagues for their decision to continue building on our many achievements. We look forward to continuing our work with government to ensure that Canada continues to remain a leader in space-related innovation, exploration and travel, and we eagerly anticipate the introduction of Canada’s next generation of astronauts in 2017.
