White Plains, NY, 11 April 2016
Corporate Angel Network, the organization that arranges free flights to treatment for cancer patients in the empty seats of corporate jet aircraft, today announced that Gina A. Russo will assume the position of Executive Director. CAN’s Emeritus Executive Director, Peter H. Fleiss, will continue with the organization during the transition.
With an undergraduate degree from Bucknell University and a Masters in social work from New York University, Ms. Russo comes to CAN with a host of talents. She was employed by The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in White Plains, NY for 11 years with increasing responsibilities, culminating as Executive Director of Access & Education, where she was responsible for the strategic direction and development of an expanded healthcare professional and patient education portfolio. In that position, she designed and implemented a program to assure that blood cancer patients were not facing barriers to care. Ms. Russo then joined the Cancer Support Team, located in Purchase, NY as Executive Director where she oversaw development, operations, fundraising and community relations for the organization.
“The Board is delighted that Gina will be lending her talents to supporting the transportation needs of cancer patients and growing and streamlining CAN’s day-to-day operations,” said Randall Greene, CAN’s Chairman.
Corporate Angel Network, based at Westchester County Airport, arranges free transportation for cancer patients to specialized treatment by coordinating the use of empty seats on corporate jets by matching the flight itineraries with the patient destination requests.
Since its first flight in 1981, CAN, a 501(c)(3) organization with Public Charity status, has provided nearly 50,000 flights to adults and children whose best treatment options are often thousands of miles from home. Volunteers and a small staff coordinate the medical travel needs of patients with the scheduled flight activity of more than 500 participating corporations (including half those listed in the Fortune 100), and arrange approximately 225 patient flights each month.
