Montréal, 7 February 2017 – Global leaders will focus on ramping up the deployment of alternative fuels to decrease aviation’s environmental impact at a major international event kicking off at ICAO in Montréal tomorrow.
These fuels are amongst the measures ICAO is putting forward to support the industry’s efforts to achieve carbon neutral growth. Diplomats, industry leaders and academics will review the state of worldwide activities on the use of alternative fuels in aviation, life-cycle analysis methodologies and sustainability criteria, financing and assistance programmes, and the legal and regulatory frameworks that support the development and deployment of these fuels in aviation. The role of biofuels in States’ Voluntary Action Plans for reducing CO2 emissions, ICAO assistance projects, and the global market-based measure (GMBM) scheme will also be addressed.
A keynote speech will be delivered by Ms. Rac?hel Kyte?,? Chief Executive Officer of the Sustainable Energy for All (SE4All) and Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Sustainable Energy, and an industry exhibit ?will showcase the breadth of existing and emerging technologies, and research and development activities of this industry sector?.
