Statement by AIA President and CEO David F. Melcher on DOD’s decision to send the F-35 to the International Paris Air Show.
Arlington, Va. — The Aerospace Industries Association applauds today’s announcement of DOD’s decision to send the F-35 to the International Paris Air Show.
International air shows provide the U.S. aerospace and defense industry with an important opportunity to showcase American manufacturing preeminence bolstered by critical international partnerships to create the unmatched technology of systems like the F-35. They are also critical events for high-level representatives from the U.S. government to interact with their peers around the world and maximize common security, foreign policy and economic interests.
The United States proudly arranges flight demonstrations and static displays of our civil and military aircraft at these international air shows to reinforce why America is the security and trading partner of choice, generating significant goodwill with foreign audiences and potential customers. To our allies and partners and the thousands of civilians who come from around the world, there is no more compelling representation of U.S. leadership, engagement, prowess and innovation than the presence of U.S. aircraft, accompanied by the polish and professionalism of the aircrews supporting those aircraft.
As an outstanding example of international security cooperation, it is particularly appropriate for the F-35 to be present at this year’s International Paris Air Show. As we observe the 100th anniversary of the American entry into World War I, we salute this decision as a welcome acknowledgement of theenduring strength of Franco-American friendship and partnership.
