Statement by AIA President and CEO David F. Melcher calling for Congress to pass a comprehensive tax reform bill.
Arlington, Va. — The introduction today of Senate Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch’s (R-Utah) tax reform bill is yet another major step in modernizing America’s tax code and fostering an improved competitive landscape for American manufacturing. The Aerospace Industries Association will continue to enthusiastically advocate that any final tax bill reflects the pro-growth principles of a permanent, more competitive corporate tax rate, transition to a territorial tax system and positive tax changes to encourage repatriation of accrued overseas income that we have communicated to the Administration and Congress throughout 2017.
The aerospace and defense industry employs 2.4 million people in the United States – constituting fully 13% of the U.S. manufacturing base – and has a proven track record for creating more high-skill, high-wage jobs with the economic boost that permanent and comprehensive tax reform offers. AIA strongly urges Congress to pass tax reform legislation that reinvests in American manufacturing.
