Arlington, Va. — The aerospace and defense industry strongly urged Congress to complete FY 2018 authorization and appropriations measures to ensure consistent and uninterrupted funding of the federal government.
Twelve defense-related associations, covering the entire breadth of the aerospace and defense industry, joined in a letter to the House andSenate Leaders in both parties, asking them to act quickly to fund the government and address the debt ceiling in order to prevent a federal shutdown or a default, and address looming significant national security readiness challenges.
The letter pointed out that in the last shutdown, “vital programs and services were compromised and our economy lost $24 billion, causing critical impacts. These damaging effects are set to play out again if Congress does not reach agreement to continue government funding … We hope you and your colleagues will act swiftly to avoid any threat of government shutdown, a default, or other unnecessary delays that disrupt both industry markets and the proper functioning of the federal government.”
Signatories to the letter included the leaders of the Aerospace Industries Association, the National Defense Industrial Association, the Professional Services Council, the Navy League of the United States, the Aerospace States Association, the Society of American Military Engineers, the American Society of Military Comptrollers, the Association of the United States Army, the Association for Unmanned Vehicles International, the Association of Old Crows, the Surface Navy Association and the Air Force Association.
