OTTAWA – According to the president Canadian Association of Defence and Security Industries (CADSI), Christyn Cianfarani CANSEC has enjoyed a phenomenal growth over the past ten years.
From a local event in 1998, CANSEC turned into an international one with many exhibitors coming from abroad.
CANSEC covered in 2005 26300 square feet of exhibition floor, 135 000 this year, in 2005, hosted 155 exhibitors in 186 booths and 331 and 700 this year ; hosted in 2005 11 000 registrants and 5989 this year. Fifty foreign delegations including chiefs of staff and ministers, attended this year against none in 2005.
According to CADSI president, CANSECÂ is the largest defence trade exhibition in Canada attracting more than 3000 people from the Canadian Forces, the Department of National Defence and Canadian government.
Madam Cianfarani nominated at the head of CADSI on September, the 22nd, 2014 spent 17 years at CAE in various Director positions after having served in the Canadian Navy as a MARS officer. Graduated from the Royal Military College of Canada, she earned a Bachelor’s degree then from the University of Toronto, a Master’s degree.
Internationally CADSI started a few years ago to group Canadian companies under the Canada Pavilion banner in international shows.
According to the latest CADSI figures, the Canadian defence and security sector is 109 000 jobs. Sales amounts to $12 billion last year whose 51% or $6.4 billions were exports. Research and development expenses reached $250 millions and taxes paid, $2,7 billion.
Wage in the defense and security sector is 60% higher than Canadian average.
Three main procurement programs are facing Canada are to replace the CF-18 Hornet fighter, the Halifax-class frigates and fixed-wing search and rescue Buffalo aircraft.
