AHS International is pleased to announce that we are rebranding as the “Vertical Flight Society” to better reflect our membership and our role in the world.

After years of discussion and months of debate, the Board of Directors of AHS International voted to change the identity of AHS to the description that the Society had been using in various forms for a half century. While not a legal name change, theVertical Flight Society will become the “trade name” for AHS.

The Board approved the change after studying the results of multiple surveys, considering the proud legacy of AHS, and debating how to best position the Society for the ure. The Society will transition to our new name by Jan. 1, 2019.

Seventy-five years ago, the pioneers of the helicopter industry recognized that advancements in vertical flight required the close collaboration of technical experts in the field. This led to the creation of the American Helicopter Society on February 25, 1943. Today, the world of vertical flight includes much more than just helicopters. From VTOL unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), tiltrotors and advanced compounds to electric VTOL and jet lift “jump jets” the future of vertical flight is much more expansive than it was 75 years ago, when the helicopter industry was first taking off. AHS is the Vertical Flight Society for all types of aircraft that generate vertical lift or thrust through rotating airfoils.
